What’s in your digital future
In an exclusive pre-conference interview with LERN, the BBC’s Gareth Mitchell told us what’s happening this month with our Digital Planet:

I’m keeping an eye on Diaspora, an open-source social network that describes itself as ‘privacy aware’ alternative to Facebook. Announcement and code release expected in a few weeks.
My current favorite App is the Wifi analyser app on Android. So cool!
My I-want gadget, apart from iPad, is the new HTC cell phone Desire. I like the AMOLED screen.
Regarding consumer electronics, digital cameras are exciting at the moment. The Sony NEX-5 is a compact but with proper DSLR quality and features.
One of the world’s foremost journalists on technology, Gareth Mitchel of BBC’s radio show Digital Planet keynotes the big LERN Conference in Chicagoin November. He talks about the latest developments and the future of technology in engaging and down-to-earth plain English.

Mitchell’s 30 minute weekly radio show (check it out here) are divided into 6 minute sections online.
Customer Service hot again
In this economy, competition is fierce and customer service is surely an edge most organizations could afford to sharpen, says LERN training consultant Julia King Tamang. She says customer service training is popular again. King Tamang will speak on “Powerful Conversations” at the LERN Conference in Chicago.
Mobile Apps coming
Mobile Apps are the next big things for lifelong learning marketing, says LERN eMarketing expert Suzanne Kart. Some 91% of people now have a cell phone. Kart will speak on eMarketing at the LERN conference in Chicago.
Big Mistakes
Take Down Programs
A number of programs, which LERN estimates to be from 10% to 25% of all programs, are making big mistakes taking gambles on unproven strategies in the tough times.

The big mistakes are primarily due to central administrators without knowledge of continuing education and lifelong learning. Come to the LERN Chicago conference and make sure you make all the right decisions.
Top social media questions
This year’s top questions from marketers about social media:
1) How do I measure social media return on investment?
2) What are the social media best practices?
3) How do I best manage my time with social media?
Get the answers from social media guru Jennifer Selke. She will be doing four sessions at this year’s LERN conference in Chicago.
Profitability theme
For Chicago conference
With profitability a major concern right now in the field, here are some of the top sessions on profitability at the Chicago conference:
- How to raise prices
-Writing effective email promotion copy
-How to cut brochure costs
-Sales 2.0
