Web design, software and app development – they’re just a few of the top job-demand industries and they all require coding skills.
Various types of coding account for four of the 10 technical skills with the biggest increase in demand, according to a recent article from Forbes.
CNM Ingenuity – a non-profit organization founded by Central New Mexico Community College – made a great investment when it acquired a coding boot camp in 2014, the first coding boot camp in the country to be acquired by a community college.
Under CNM Ingenuity, the Deep Dive Coding Bootcamp was further developed to give students highly-valued skills that are in great demand by tech companies, global corporations and other employers.
The 10-week intensive Bootcamp teaches students the skills they need to build great websites, new software and innovative mobile applications.
According to an article on the program from the Albuquerque Journal, “the course work is embedded in real-world web development that includes each student building their own personal website, plus a “capstone” team project where groups of three to four students work together to build a fully functional website with commercial applications from the ground up.”
Since August 2014, 119 students have completed the Deep Dive Coding Bootcamp, but that’s not even the most impressive thing about this program.
- Revenue generated by the program since August 2014: $673,000
- Average salary for graduates: $45,000
- Companies started by graduates: 6
- Average number of students per bootcamp: 16
The price for the Deep Dive Coding Bootcamp started at $4,995 and the price has increased three times while enrollments have only continued to increase. The current cost of the Bootcamp is $6,495 for New Mexico residents and $7,495 for out-of-state applicants.
The cost of the Bootcamp not only generates income for Central New Mexico Community College but it pays off for the students. An article from The Economist states “49% of postings in the quartile of occupations with the highest pay are for jobs that frequently ask for coding skills.”
And Bootcamp students don’t have to stop increasing their skills when the 10-week program is over. By being associated with the Community College, students can earn 12 college credits for completing the Bootcamp, and students can also receive Credit for Prior Learning, making it easy for students who want to go on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Web Technology.
The success of the Deep Dive Coding Bootcamp has also led to the development of new two new Bootcamps that focus on other in-demand tech skills including Salesforce development and .NET technology.
The job market and the skills required to be successful are always changing, and programming should follow suit. CNM Ingenuity is paving the way in innovative programming that benefits the students and the organization.
