{"id":10144,"date":"2017-03-31T09:07:43","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T14:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lern.org\/?p=10144"},"modified":"2021-08-01T16:30:05","modified_gmt":"2021-08-01T21:30:05","slug":"special-events-when-done-right-can-help-programs-reach-multiple-goals","status":"publish","type":"club_article","link":"https:\/\/lern.com\/lernclub\/club_article\/special-events-when-done-right-can-help-programs-reach-multiple-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"Special events \u2013 when done right \u2013 can help programs reach multiple goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can a single event achieve multiple goals?<a href=\"https:\/\/lern.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/tap-and-taste-map.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10145\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10145\" src=\"https:\/\/lern.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/tap-and-taste-map-300x232.jpg\" alt=\"tap and taste map\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIf the planning is strategic and the goals are clear, then the answer is a definite \u201cYes,\u201d as proven by the <a href=\"https:\/\/willamalane.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willamalane Park and Recreation District<\/a> in Springfield, Ore.<br \/>\nThe program was ramping up classes and programs for adults ages 18-49 and wanted to increase awareness for all of the new classes \u2013 the program premiered 80 new classes for that segment in its Fall 2016 brochure, the same brochure that promoted Tap &amp; Taste. And, because the program serves as a champion of the community, leaders of the Willamalane Park and Recreation District also had set the goals of boosting civic pride and advancing the downtown revitalization efforts.<br \/>\nWith these outcomes in mind, Willamalane launched a new special event, Tap &amp; Taste, in August 2016. Tickets for the event were $15 in advance and $20 at the gate<br \/>\nTap &amp; Taste featured live music, local breweries and small bites from area restaurants. The beer and food celebration brought together the program, dozens of area vendors and more than 700 area residents who got to learn about Willamalane\u2019s offerings while enjoying a new special event.<br \/>\nThe event also served as the launch site for a new Springfield Proud social media campaign which invites community members to be part of a conversation about what makes Springfield a great place to live, furthering Willamalane\u2019s efforts to boost civic pride and downtown revitalization efforts.<br \/>\nThe premier Tap &amp; Taste event featured a Springfield Proud mural by a local artist and invited attendees to \u201ctag\u201d the mural by writing their Springfield Proud moments on cards that were then attached to the artwork. Attendees were also encouraged to take selfies with the mural and post them using #SpringfieldProud. People who participated in the social media campaign were rewarded with Springfield Proud swag.<br \/>\nPeople are still using the hashtag and interest for the 2017 event has already generated more interest from vendors and the community.<br \/>\nThe event was so successful thanks in part to Willamalane\u2019s integrated marketing approach which <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lern.org\/integrated-marketing-done-right\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">you can read about here.<\/a><br \/>\nTap &amp; Taste helped Willamalane reach all of the goals the program leaders set and the event is only expected to grow in years to come.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can a single event achieve multiple goals?
