{"id":18164,"date":"2017-11-27T15:12:18","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T21:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lern.org\/?post_type=article&#038;p=11193"},"modified":"2021-08-02T12:21:43","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T17:21:43","slug":"conference-transformed-forever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lern.com\/lerntest\/conference-transformed-forever\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Transformed Forever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year the LERN Annual Conference was changed forever.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lern.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Tammy-at-Member-Booth.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11194\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11194\" src=\"https:\/\/lern.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Tammy-at-Member-Booth-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Tammy at Member Booth\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGen Yers and LERN leaders initiated the transition to a more engaged and active conference.\u00a0 The new session formats were met with huge approval by the almost 700 lifelong learning practitioners in attendance.<br \/>\nIt almost assuredly guarantees that your classes and courses will also be changed forever, moving to adopt new more engaged formats for your program.<br \/>\nHere are the five new formats that premiered at the conference:<br \/>\nEngaged Session<br \/>\nAn all-new format, participants were seated at round tables. The presenter spoke only for 10 minutes.\u00a0 Then there were small group discussions.\u00a0 Finally, participants engaged in 1-2 polls using their apps.\u00a0 The new format was initiated and endorsed by a team of Gen Y leaders in LERN\u2019s Emerging Leaders Council. LERN plans to double the number of Engaged Sessions next year to one in every session time slot.<br \/>\nPractitioner Panels<br \/>\nThree big changes in our panel sessions. Practitioners rather than consultants composed the panels. A trained moderator ran the panel session. The third change was to switch to bar stools for the panelists, which made the panelists far more immediate and interactive with the participants.<br \/>\nAll-New Awards Luncheon<br \/>\nInstead of a 25-minute presentation and slide show announcing the winners, the winners were announced with an abbreviated presentation on why they won.\u00a0 That left a full 30 minutes for luncheon participants to get up and go to 20 poster boards with the awards on them, and to speak with the awards winners about their innovations.\u00a0 People also could choose from various flavors of ice cream bars for dessert and eat while talking.\u00a0 The room was visibly energized by all the networking.<br \/>\nRoundtables Get Rooms<br \/>\nTwo Roundtable discussions were featured during each time slot. They overflowed with people and so more chairs were added due to the popularity of this format.\u00a0 Instead of Roundtables being done in the same large room, the Roundtables each had a small meeting room to allow for better hearing and no noise distraction.<br \/>\nMobile App Takes Over<br \/>\nThis year the mobile app took over as the primary mechanism for conference information, including slides, handouts, daily news, schedule changes, CEU quizzes, reports, photos and participant ideas. Even more app features are undoubtedly in the LERN conference future.
