{"id":18176,"date":"2018-03-30T13:00:58","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T18:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lern.org\/?post_type=article&#038;p=11915"},"modified":"2021-08-02T12:22:04","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T17:22:04","slug":"historic-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lern.com\/lerntest\/historic-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Historic Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A historic Senior LERN Leader meeting last month in Chicago will improve the professionalism of the entire field of lifelong learning.<br \/>\nYour LERN leaders decided to move forward with both program certification and professional certification renewal.<br \/>\n<strong>PROGRAM CERTIFICATION<br \/>\n<\/strong>Leaders endorsed LERN creating a program certification for member organizations to be certified by LERN. Leaders will be engaged this year in working on the criteria and specifics.<br \/>\n<strong>PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION RENEWAL<br \/>\n<\/strong>Leaders agreed that LERN should set up a system for maintaining LERN professional certification.<br \/>\nThe draft plan includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CPP is the brand certification that should be maintained.<\/li>\n<li>The renewal period is every two years.<\/li>\n<li>A variety of LERN programs will be available for renewal.<\/li>\n<li>The renewal currency will be a number (to be decided) of professional development points.<\/li>\n<li>Renewal content should be a mix of New Content and Refresher Content<\/li>\n<li>The cost will be $199, although it will be built into some activities qualifying (example: annual conference attendance).<\/li>\n<li>Renewal will be based on outcomes, specifically passing quizzes or a single test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>LEADERS SERVE ON CERTIFICATION BOARDS<br \/>\n<\/strong>To provide input and to make both certifications relevant to each of our constituencies,<br \/>\nLERN Leaders will be asked to serve on Certification Boards for their particular institutional setting.<br \/>\nThe Senior LERN Leader meeting was led by Sandra Parker of Toronto, the 2018-2019 Chair of the LERN Board of Directors, and was attended by 22 leaders from recreation departments, public schools, community colleges, universities, and associations.
