2 Keys to Staff Shortages

Organizations may have the answers to their own staff shortages, according to two surveys of current staff.

Here are the results of the surveys of professionals working in lifelong learning programs and continuing education.

1.Work both home and office.
Some 72% of people said hybrid work, with both days at home and the office, was their preferred method of work. Another 19% wanted to work full-time at home, or remotely. Just 9% want to work full-time in an office.

2.Work 32 hours.
Only 8% of people want to work five days, 40 hours a week. Another 24% would prefer four days a week with 10 hour days, or 40 hours a week. An overwhelming 68% of people in our field want a four day, 32 hour work week.

Lifelong learning organizations are experiencing staff shortages, one of the top issues for the field this year. Given rock-bottom unemployment rates and a tough competitive environment for skilled workers, your own staff are pointing to two keys to solving the staff shortage problem.

The two surveys were created by participants at the LERN Annual Conference.
