LERN Leader Celebrated

LERN Leader Celebrated

Doug Soo

The life of Doug Soo is being celebrated this month in his hometown of Vancouver, BC.  Soo grew his lifelong learning program to be one of the biggest and best programs in North America. He was a long-time leader in LERN, serving as Chair of the Board of Directors in 2004-2005.
Doug served in the LERN leadership for more than a decade. He shared his secrets of success with others in the field, frequently cited LERN for being a key to the success of his program, gave sessions at the LERN conference and at LERN’s Executive Leadership Institute. His program won several International Awards from LERN.
Doug retired last year as Dean of Continuing Studies at Langara College. His last LERN conference was the Washington, D.C. conference.  An avid hiker, he died on Grouse Mountain in British Columbia last month of a heart attack while hiking with friends.  Representatives of LERN will be at the celebration of his life on February 22.  We extend our greatest sympathies to his wife Penny, who often accompanied him to LERN events and supported his involvement in our association.
