While many course titles are short, to the point and not cute, developing titles impacts the bottom line. Here is what one LERN member program did to revive a class that was lagging.
The course was entitled Exercise.
Not pleased with the low enrollments, the program director retitled the class as Thunder Thighs and Hippo Hips, and registrations soared. The class now regularly generates 50-60 enrollments each term. Here are a couple of reasons that strategy worked:
- The title spoke to how some people view themselves. While it is not flattering, many people hold unflattering self-images that they strongly relate to (even if they are not realistic).
- The course addressed specific issues of the target audience.
- The title employed humor, and it definitely caught attention of the readers.
Here is the Course Description:
“Do you feel left out of the fitness movement because you think exercise is too strenuous? Join us for this moderate, sensible, enjoyable program of spot exercising. Classes will concentrate on problem areas of hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach. This is NOT aerobic exercise.
